SHEPTON MALLET PRISON PROJECTS:

• Unravelling the origins of the prison; establishment versus construction.

• A case study of the ‘American’ execution shed.

• Research regarding The Krays and Charlie Richardson.

• Shepton Mallet Prison in relation to the many wars and its connection to conflicts throughout history, post Waterloo and the many courts martials in both home and foreign lands.

• Raising awareness of the suffragette movement and a connection to Mabel Capper in 1911. Now an interpretation space in A Wing.

• Successful negotiations with Somerset Archives for the release of a series of site plans dating from 1817 to 1848.

• Research assignments from visitors including a case Study of Captain William Ryall 1917 (Private commission) and research of an ex-warder from 1893.

• Supplying research for official periodical social media updates.

• Research and compilation of the full governor list (inspired by the work Francis Disney).

• Transportation research.

• History in the modern age. Case studies and experiments with database and mobile applications development to provide instant access to history and statistics. Development of the offence calculator through BI.

• Release of Data Analytics following experiments in database and statistical software.

• Summer 2021 launched a series of base line scientific experiments and site surveys using offline mobile survey forms.

• May 2021 From The Inside is launched in an initial run of 40 copies which sold out. Agreement signed over publication rights in October 2021 leading to the order of a second print run.

• The Art Behind Bars project is launched in September 2021 and Timequest is involved in a number of research requests relating to C Wing and female prisoners. A keepsake artist tribute book A Place To Connect due for release in January 2022.

• Site promotion for the prison as a location of international importance:

PHASE I: UK Birthplace Map (1890 to 1930), PHASE II: Large Scale International Map, PHASE III: the Last transportation voyage of the Hougoumont in 1867/1868.

• Media consultancy.

• Work with degree students on dissertations and case studies.

• 2022 Completion of the digitizing of all available prison registers with basic and statistically relevant information in the form of a database linking directly to images of the original documents for further information.
